International Olympiads in geography, chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics and informatics have been conducted under the auspices of UNESCO for over 30 years. Each year national teams from all over the world take part in these contests. Russian teams have traditionally been among the winners of annual international contests.
The Vladimir Potanin Foundation supports the winners with the scholarship of 3,500 Rubles monthly throughout their studies in the secondary school and further on during all period of their studies in state universities. Since the beginning of this program 104 pupils and students received Foundation scholarships.
Special training aimed at enhancing psychological and emotional stability, to cope with the tough, competitive atmosphere of the contest is conducted at the Foundation’s initiative on the eve of the contests.
The Foundation annually rewards with special grants the schoolchildren team’s tutors, who managed to create unique educational methods to treat gifted children.
The opening of www.rusolymp.ru, the website of All-Russian and international secondary school Olympiads, was also made possible thanks to the Foundation’s support. The website provides opportunity for the most talented schoolboys and schoolgirls from remote Russian settlements to communicate and share information. It also assists them in getting better prepared for the Olympiads.
In 2007, the Foundation supported the 39th International Olympiad of Chemistry hosted in Moscow by Chemical Faculty of Moscow State University named after M.V.Lomonosov.
