Federal Scholarship Program
The aim of the program is to support gifted young people, who will become the country's intellectual and business elite in future.
More than 100,000 A-level students took part in selection contests during the eight years of the program’s existence, with a total number of winners exceeding 10,000 students.
In 2008/09 academic year, 1,330 students from 67 leading state universities will become winners of the Federal Scholarship Program. The scholarship, amounting to 3,000 Rubles, is granted on a monthly basis during the year.
How to Become a Scholarship Winner
The scholarships are awarded upon the results of the contest selections. From September 15th till November 15th 2008, thirty three universities in Central, Northwestern, Southern Federal districts, part of the Volga region and Moscow will participate in contest selections.
From February 15th till April 15th 2009, contests will be launched in 34 universities of the Siberian, Urals and Far Eastern Federal Districts, part of the Volga region and in Moscow.
The program’s participants are students, who receive only «excellent» marks in the course of the preceding two consecutive semesters. They take part in the contest selections, which are realized in the form of testing and role-play games. The contests are geared to identify the personal potential of the participants. Winners must have such qualities as adaptability, creativity, ability to communicate, capacity for hard work, leadership and managerial skills and must be able to work in a team.
New Opportunities: from Scholarships to Grants
The scholarship represents only one part of the leadership program for gifted students. The program’s winners are offered to attend Winter and Summer schools. The aim of these institutions is to help students to implement there initiatives in the field of community work, students self-administration and students scientific associations.
In classes students refine their projects and present final results in public. Best projects receive grants for their implementation. Total amount of the grants allocated to the participants of the Winter and Summer schools is 2,000,000 rubles with maximum amount for one grant totaling 200,000 rubles.
Each school enrolls up to 600 participants, who will be lectured by young tutors – winners of the Foundation grant Program for young tutors.
