On the 5th of June the award ceremony for the winners of the “A Changing Museum in a Changing World” grant contest took place. 405 museums from 67 regions of Russia participated in the Contest which was held for the forth time. The Contest jury chose 20 winners. The total amount of grants allocated for the 2007 Contest was $ 400,000.
Each Contest winner got a special souvenir – a glass cube with laser engraving which became the new symbol of the Contest and implied openness, transparency, and relevance of a museum.
Traditionally, a group of representatives from seven museums – Natalya Tolstaya from Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), Natalya Edovina from Archangelsk Area Museum (the North-West Region), Victor Shalay from “Tvorcheskiy Gorod” partnership (Vladivostok), Valery Chesnok from Archaeological Reserve Museum “Tanais” (the South Region), Andrey Kirillov from Historico-Cultural Reserve Museum “Idnakar” (the Volga Refion), Svetlana Sokolova from Recreation and Entertainment Park (Kaliningrad) and Anna Scherbakova from Anton Chekhov’s Memorial Museum of Melekhovo (the Moscow Region) were awarded with a study tour to the UK museums. The trip will be possible thanks to the joint project between the Vladimir Potanin Foundation and the British Council.
The grant contest “A Changing Museum in a Changing World” started in 2004. Its mission is to support and promote the best museum projects and managerial solutions, which promote the active development of the socio-cultural spheres and the economies of the regions, and also stimulate the growth of the professional museum community. The Contest’s organizers are the Vladimir Potanin Foundation together with the RF Ministry of Culture and Mass Communications with organizational participation of the Association of Culture Managers.
